Artist's Comments
This is dry pastel on drawing paper. I first rubbed on a layer of powder pastel and layered the rest of the colors on. I did this in honor of J.M.W Turner's "The Slave Ship throwing over the dead and dying, a hurricane coming on." That is the actual title. The ship was called the Zong.
I was unable to do any of the more horrfic details such as the sea monsters or the limbs of the drowning slaves. The medium I was using just wasn't made for details. I must admit I am very proud of how this came out. At least the color is nice and strong. |
